Coal Creek OHV in Tennessee
«

Has anyone ever been there?
I just got back Sunday from a trip there, and man, was it different.
I drove there on Wed.
Rode Thurs., Fri., and Sat.
Drove home on Sun.
Few things I learned...
Trail marking is important. No entry signs are even more important.
GPS is a necessity when riding somewhere new, or somewhere that is that big.
Get something to wear over mouth for dusty situations. GET IT NOW.
HMT is much better, especially when it comes to trail marking.
If you can't drive there and ride some in the same day, you probably shouldn't go.
haha

I agree on the trail markings....there's much to be desired in that department at CC. It was wayyyy too easy to wander off the system and onto a haul road or non-system trail. Without Adrian's GPS, who knows where we would have ended up. That being said, the trails themselves were great. There was plenty of fantastic scenery and a good amount of technically challenging trails. Too challenging for some folks.
Pics to follow, as soon as I get everything else caught up.
Adrian: Where are your pics and vids? I know you took some good ones.

I haven't uploaded them yet. The videos are huge, and I need to figure out how to make them "uploadable".
haha
I want to see yours as well.
I will be posting all of the pics up on picasa and I will send you the link.
I will probably have to upload them to two different folders... one shareable, and the other... well, not so much. I am sure that the comedy pics that were taken at my poor camera's expense while i was trying to get the truck and trailer up the hill need to be private. Or should they...
Too challenging... I have to pass out thanks to John for :
Thanks for grabbing my front rack on that one short little ramp/hill thing. I hate it when hills have a lip to them. I am riding a ute, not a sport bike. I DO NOT want to catch air to climb a hill.
Also, thanks for getting the grizzly up that "shortcut" mud climb. There was a mud hole that was impassible with a way-around to the right. The way-around had a weird mud/rock/briar (yes briars, I grabbed one of them and got stuck through the glove) trail that explorer blasted the grizzly up for me. I of course busted my butt trying to hoof it up the hill. What's new?
I think off-camber took the cake on headaches for me. That one part where you came back to find Luke and I off of the bikes was frustrating to me. I don't like to be sideways.

No problem Adrian. Like I said...I enjoy the challenging spots.
Regarding "those" pics: Probably best kept private. Not everyone needs to know the weirdos we hang with. ;-)
Here are my pics....
1) Windrock Lodge
2) View from the top
3) Me

You got some nice pictures there!
Did you upload them to picasa?
I was hoping to download the whole album.
I am going to upload mine there tonight.
I will email out the link.

My last trip to Windrock was a couple of years ago. My riding group has been going to Windrock every couple of years since 2001. The last trip showed a significant change for the worse in the trails. The trails we were used to riding had developed deep rutting, exsposed roots and rocks, and off camber slides that were not present on our prior trips. They needed to remark some of their trails to reflect the new difficulty factor. We went through some of their intermeadiate trails only by pushing, pulling and winching our 4 wheelers. The trails were fun, but by most trail standards they were mislabled. It sounds like they have not improved things. I do like all the available Motels and restaruants in the Oak Ridge area.

Hey Explorer I finally stumbled upon your secret atv forum. Did I like Coal Creek....yes! Do I like Hatfield McCoy better.....HELL YES!
I liked the trails at coal creek but I have to say I am not one for tons and tons of rocks. Not that I am scared of them its just the beat the snot out of my shoulders, and the one on trail 9 almost killed me....lol! I am kinda happy that Jeremy and I took that extreme trail......it was tough but we did it!
Favorite systems in order:
1) Bearwallow
2) Indian Ridge
3) Rock House
4) Pinnacle Creek
5) Coal Creek
6) Busco Beach
7) Carolina Crapventure world

Welcome aboard Anthony. Re your list...I agree, but I would sandwich Catfish Pond in before Busco.
